Her Next Play Virtual Walk/Run 5K

Race Week: August 1st - 9th, 2020

Sign up as a participant and over the first nine days of August, complete the 5K at your convenience. You can choose where and when you run. Sign up yourself, run with another family member, or register the whole family living in one household. Organize your team, co- workers, or club and train and run together.

Game Plan:  For Your Career Search During COVID-19 

Monday August 10th at 12:00 noon CST

The game just changed!  We are ready to coach you through it.  Many college athletes are facing cancelled seasons, stalled career plans, and rescinded job offers.  Fortunately, you can use your athlete mindset to navigate these challenges and strengthen your career readiness skills during this challenging time.  Join Her Next Play leader Audra Emerson for coaching, insight and support on how you can build a Game Plan for your job search and career during this global pandemic.

Play Bold Virtual Basketball Camp

August 17th – 20th, 9:00-11:00 am CST

Through a combination of basketball training and skill build sessions, this program develops the leadership skills and mental mindset to help girls be strong leaders on their team and in their lives.  Each session includes 1.5 hours basketball training with an elite MYAS Trusted Coach along with a 30 minute HNP skill build sessions on one of the following topics:

  • Self Talk To Improve Performance

  • Play Bold Through Mistakes & Setback

  • Improving Your Game With Visualization

  • SEEUS Be Confident, Real & Strong

Coaching Circle

September 10th - November 19th, 2020.  6 sessions are held bi-weekly on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 pm.

Career Accelerator Network (CAN) Coaching Circles provided mentorship and support to female athletes in the early years of their careers.  The program is a safe place for mentees to discuss current challenges and solutions along with an opportunity to connect learn and grow.  Successful women business leaders and athletes served as mentor coaches and shared their insights and experiences on topics such as: 

·      Building Healthy Habits

·      Dealing With Mistakes and Failures In Your Career

·      Building Strong Relationships

·      Working in a Male Dominated Environment

Discover how to use the competitive mindset you’ve developed as an athlete to shine bright and stand out in your early career.  Through case studies, and interactive exercises, learn how to build your professional brand, market the skills you’ve developed as an athlete, and differentiate yourself as you launch your career.

Build Your Constellation of Connections

As an athlete, you have a support system of coaches, teammates, trainers, fans, friends, and family.  As an emerging professional, building a constellation of career support is just as critical, but many student-athletes miss opportunities to create the connections they’ll need to successfully transition from sport to career.

Through stories, case studies, and exercises, discover how to build professional relationships and create networks of support.   Learn how to find and approach mentors and sponsors, and build and maintain professional connections to help you successfully navigate your early career.

What? Career Readiness Boot Camp. Three days of intense career readiness preparation. Training on making your pitch, interview skills, resume building, LinkedIn, and networking. Opportunities to hear from former hockey players about their careers. Visits to a cross section of Twin Cities companies.

Building a Playbook For What’s Next Webinar

May 20th, 2020

Tackle What's Next and Her Next Play  hosted a livestream event. The virtual event inspired conversation on how to prepare for what's next. Athletes learned how to stand out among the crowd when it comes to the job search, building their network and finding the right career path. Former student athletes spoke about their experiences navigating what's next after sports.

Her Next Play "Play Bold Huddles" 

Throughout the month of May and April Her Next Play's Junior Varsity Board participated in "Play Bold Huddles".  These 40 minute virtual huddles for middle school athletes included conditioning, yoga, and high energy work outs, as well as speakers on leadership and mental skills.  They learned from sports psychologists, athletes, and fitness experts on how to keep their game sharp during social distancing.

CAN: Coaching Circle

Career Accelerator Network (CAN) Coaching Circles provided mentorship and support to female athletes in the early years of their careers.  These groups of 8-10 athletes met weekly and allowed young professionals to form new connections as well as develop critical career and leadership skills.  Successful women business leaders and athletes served as mentor coaches and shared their insights and experiences on topics such as:

CAN:  WISE Twin Cities Power Play

Women of the Minnesota Vikings hosted the WISE Twin Cities Power Play event in honor of  International Women's Day. This event featured women leaders of the Minnesota Vikings who shared their professional and personal journeys on how to break in and move up in the sports industry. 

Dads and Daughters Day

March 1st, 2020

 

Her Next Play, Positive Coaching Alliance, and the University of Minnesota celebrated the special bond between Dads and Daughters at the Gopher Women's Basketball game. This special event featured a post-game talk with Kelly Curry about the support she received from her father as a player and coach.

MN WILD: Women In Sports Panel

The Minnesota Wild hosted a pre-game Women In Sports Panel. Our very own Her Next Play Vice President Audra Emerson spoke at the panel alongside other female leaders who have worked in the sports industry!

The Her Next Play Career Accelerator Network hosted a Building Your Team event at Royal Foundry. Guests were informed on strategies to build relationships with mentors, sponsors, professional contacts, peers, and new friends to create the support system needed to grow their career.

Female Athlete Summit

Inspired Athletx hosted a Female Athlete Summit on January 16. The Summit educated and inspired guests with women's sports medicine experts, champions for women in athletics, and elite female athletes! Our President, Sara Wegmann, was a Keynote speaker.

The Her Next Play Career Accelerator Network hosted a Health and Wellness event at mXe Movement Studio. Guests rocked their MOJO workout and heard from health coach Allison Mosso about intuitive eating. 

Communicating with Confidence Workshop: Edina Dance Team

Her Next Play and the Edina Dance Team had a day filled with interactive activities, building confidence, and practicing communication skills. There were more than 40 attendees and the girls showed significant improvement in their confidence and communication skills. 

A Conversation with Figure Skating Champion Surya Bonaly and Sports Commentator Lea B. Olsen

November 2, 2019

 

Her Next Play joined Rethink the Win for an up close and personal talk with former figure skater and special guest Surya Bonaly. Surya is the five-time European champion, nine-time French champion, and three-time World silver medalist. She is the only figure skater to land a backflip in Olympic competition. 

CAN: Pivot Play- Transitioning from Sport to Career

The HNP Varsity Board hosted their first Career Accelerator Network Event. Over 50 former and current female athletes came to hear from a panel of powerful women leaders and former athletes who have successfully made the transition from sport to career. 

Edina Girls' Sports Summit

September 30, 2019

 

The HNP JV Board set out to help their peers recognize the life skills learned through athletics and inspire girls to stay in sports.  130 middle school girls participated in a day full of yoga, mental skills training, soccer, nutrition advice, photo booth fun, and learnings from an Elite Athlete Panel.

  • 98% said they learned skills that they can use in sports & life

  • 97% reported feeling more confident about taking risks and playing bold

  • 99% said they felt inspired to stay in sports

She Can Play

Middle School girls are dropping out of sports at twice the rate of boys.  Many girls drop out because they don't believe they'll have the opportunity to compete in high school.  At the She Can Play event, parents got the inside scoop on the many athletic opportunities for girls from Edina High School Administrators and Coaches.  This informative and insightful evening was made possible due to the generosity of our partner The Riveter and dozens of EHS coaches and administrators.

Track Girlz Empowerment Workshop

We love TrackGirlz and everything they are doing to empower young women through  sisterhood and fitness. Founder and Olympian Mechelle Freeman led nearly 75 girls through an inspiring day of pilates, soccer and of course running!  Her Next Play joined in and led interactive empowerment sessions to teach girls the importance of body language and how to communicate with confidence.

PcV Triathlon

Congratulations to all the powerful athletes that completed this year’s Physical Culture Triathlon.  This community event celebrated Physical Cultures's Community and raised funds in support of Her Next Play.  Together we are building the next generation of women leaders!

Women Coaches Symposium

April 19, 2019

Over 350 women coaches attended the 2019 Tucker Center Women Coaches Symposium for a day of professional development at the University of Minnesota.  Her Next Play facilitated a break-out session for student athletes titled Your Next Play:  Confidently Transitioning from Sport to Career.  During this interactive session, students learned how to identify and articulate their transferable skills learned as an athlete, and reflect on the strength that differentiates and drives success.  Through engaging exercises, they practiced how to confidently tell their story and market their skills to employers.
