Winter Wrap Up- Summer Look

Her Next Play’s had an eventful winter season and is gearing up for an even more eventful summer! Before we look at all the exciting events in the coming months, let’s take a moment to reflect back on what we did this past winter. It may have been cold outside, but we didn’t let that stop us!

Throughout December-February, we hosted a series of Play Bold workshops with the Hopkins Girls Basketball team and the South St. Paul Hockey team. Over the course of those three months, we led workshops with each team that covered topics ranging from understanding different leadership and communication styles, and how those understandings can deepen their bonds with their teammates and help them play sports. Check out some photos of these events below!

Now, let’s take a glimpse at our summer schedule!

Starting next month, we’ll be having our first of two Play Bold: Girls Sports Sampler Camps. These camps will be in partnership with Minneapolis Parks & Rec, and will be filled with a variety of sports including jiu-jitsu, gymnastics, basketball, and rugby. After they partake in their sport of the day, the girls will then participate in different workshops where they will learn how these sports are related to other central parts of their life, including school. We can’t wait!

In addition to our two Play Bold camps, we also will be helping lead (once again) the Twins Girls Baseball Camp and the I’m Next Summer Tennis Camp in July and August. For the last three summers, we have partnered with the Minnesota Twins to offer a camp for girls that provides them with a chance to play the same game as their favorite Twins players, baseball!

We’re also so excited to be partnering again with the local tennis community to offer a FREE tennis camp for middle school girls and non-binary players. Not only will it be full of tennis, but it will also be filled with valuable team building activities. Again, we can’t wait to be partnered with them and doing this for four summers now!

And last but not least, we will be hosting our first Her Next Play mini summer camp for girls located in Buffalo, Minnesota. This camp will be taking place in August and will offer girls outside the Twin Cities Metro area the same opportunity to take part in different sporting events and workshops.

We have a very busy summer, and are feeling incredibly grateful to have so many opportunities to partner with these organizations as we fulfill our mission of developing the next generation of women leaders through sports.

We also feel grateful to have the help of three interns this summer as we carry out all of our summer events: Jenna Hartung, Sydney Seeley, and Lauren Murphy!

Let’s make this summer the best one yet!
